6) I need to understand, which products compare to the Joint Recovery Maintenance Complex?

1) Plant Cell Calcium Complex
2) Daily Maintenance Nutritional Complex
3) 100% MSM
4) Super Hero Treats

The first three supplements are for joint and bone maintenance, so the Joint Recovery Maintenance Complex is a combination of these three supplements. The Super Hero Treats can be added for additional bone and joint support.

7) As we know, dogs and their conditions vary in degree of pain and arthritis as well as other issues. For Borderline (beginning stages), Mid-Level (established) and Severe Arthritis, the product recommendations are the same:  Super Cold Pressed Essential Fatty Acids, 100% MSM and Plant Cell Calcium Complex.

1) Super Cold Pressed Essential Fatty Acids
2) 100% MSM
3) Plant Cell Calcium Complex

8a) My cats need to be on a low ash, low magnesium diet. Will feeding them with The Flying Basset pet supplements meet these requirements?

Yes, however, the most important factor in feline urinary tract syndrome is the need for plenty of water intake. The Flying Basset pet foods provide plenty of “live” (food-based) water, but you still need to ensure that your cats get an additional half cup of water (each cat) per day added to their food.

8b) I have read that dogs are carnivores and therefore require a meat diet. Is that true?

There are several nutrients that dogs need that are only supplied in meat and organ meats. Unlike cats, dogs require only a partially-meat diet, but they will do fine on a high meat diet as well.

8c) I have read that cats are carnivores and therefore require a meat diet. Is that true?

Cats are “obligate carnivores” and need a diet high in meat and organ meats.

9) I would like to begin feeding The Flying Basset Organics pet supplements to my dog and cat. I have read that if this is done too fast that intestinal upsets and diarrhea may result. What are your recommendations?

It is important to wean your pet onto any new food because the intestines and the intestinal flora must adjust to the new requirements of digesting that food. Generally, dogs require 1 or 2 weeks and cats need 2 to 4 weeks. The longer adjustment period for the cat also takes into account their finicky nature over a changing diet. In my experience, I have found that several dogs who suddenly switched from a processed diet to a raw diet did not stay with it more than a week. A slow transition is the most effective approach.

10) When should I begin to feed The Flying Basset Organics to my dog or cat?

You can start a kitten or puppy on The Flying Basset Organics pet food from the start – at about 17 days of age – when they begin to also eat food. Of course, still allow them to nurse until 5 weeks of age.

11) Can I feed my cat The Flying Basset Organics supplements?

Yes, they are designed for both cats and dogs.

12) My veterinarian has recommended a prescription-type of diet for my animal. Is it still safe to feed The Flying Basset Organics instead?

That depends upon the condition and your veterinarian’s recommendation. Those specific questions can be asked of us at The Flying Basset: fb@fhtm.net.

13) What is the shelf life of The Flying Basset Organics pet supplements?

The supplements should remain good for at least 24 months as long as they are sealed and kept in a dry cool place. Once opened, the product will last for 12 months,  but because the product is highly hydroscopic, some of the powders can harden from the absorbed moisture.  This does not affect the potency of the products.  It is inconvenient,  but grinding the hardened powder will resolve this issue.  It is best to hand grind, so that the powders are not exposed to heat.  The product can be kept frozen as well, but this method is not preferred unless needed because the product can absorb additional moisture from the freezer. The topical products have a 2 year shelf life.

14) How should I store the Flying Basset Organics supplements?

Store in a cool dry place and keep containers tightly sealed. If you are storing for a longer period of time, you can put in freezer and thaw in the refrigerator.

15) What are antioxidants and what are their functions in The Flying Basset Organics dog and cat food?

Antioxidants are food molecules that neutralize the free radicals that are natural by-products of metabolism and inflammation, but are toxic to the body if not deactivated. Antioxidants are in the form of vitamins, fatty acids, and amino acids and are supplied by the food and the recommended Flying Basset supplements.

16) What is the best diet for my pet?

There is a strong consensus thata raw diet containing meat, vegetables, and fruit (and excluding wheat, corn, and soy), supplemented with a calcium, aloe, and whole food vitamin-mineral-phytonutrient mix is the only way to universally provide all the nutrients that our pets need.

17) How do I know if the diet I’m presently feeding is right for my pet?

Look for signs of health: energetic, bright eyes, lustrous coat, ease of movement, clear alert mind, and lack of signs of illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, scratching, inappetence, overdrinking, etc.

18) How does an inferior diet contribute to degenerative disease?

The body is constantly repairing its own tissues. To do this, it requires proper nutrients in the proper balances. An inferior diet leaves the body to do its best, which includes incomplete repair and worse: buildups of toxins that the body should be ridding itself of.

19) Is a raw food diet right for my pet?

You have to try it to find out. Go slow in introducing it. Take 1 to 2 weeks for a dog, and 3 to 4 weeks for a cat.

20) What is the sodium content of The Flying Basset supplements?

All Flying Basset supplements are low sodium.

21a) What is so special about the Super Hero Treats?

They are made from certified organic sprouts, a highly nutritious food, full of enzymes and proteins. This allows your pet to satisfy the need to chew without the detriments of grains and chemicals.

21b) How do I really know these supplements are at least 95% Organic?

The Flying Basset Organics are manufactured in accordance with cGMP protocols, Organic Manufacturing Certifications and the Organic Trade Association guidelines. If any ingredient is not certified organic, then it will not be listed on the ingredient listing as certified organic. All organic certificates are on file, if required.

22) Is the product thoroughly tested?

Yes, the products have been clinically tested by Dr. Gerry Buchoff in his holistic veterinarian practice. Also, the subject has been extensively written about by Pat McKay in her book, Reigning Cats and Dogs, which is available through this web site.

23) Is there any animal testing involved in The Flying Basset supplements?

The only animal testing done is for taste tests. Rufus Augustus Maximus, The Flying Basset, has approved all of the products for taste and results.

24) Are these foods 100% Complete and Balanced?

There is no prepared food on earth that is truly complete and balanced. These commercial terms are misleading for pet owners. In an attempt to supply all of the nutrients that are missing, vitamin, minerals, and phytonutrients are added. The fallacy there is that they are invariably synthetic, and therefore almost useless for the body, and they are mostly oxidized by the time they are fed. Supplements have to be kept dry or frozen to keep them potent until being fed to your pet.

25) How do I know how much to feed?

There’s a simple rule in feeding raw food to pets: lay it down and step back. Let your pet eat all they he or she wants. After 10 minutes, take up the uneaten portion and store it in your refrigerator for next time.

26) What are organic ingredients?

All of the plant-derived ingredients are certified organic. The plant-cell minerals and vitamins are whole food, organic, full matrix minerals and vitamins grown in yeast cultures.

27) Are the ingredients in The Flying Basset’s supplements organic?

Yes! They contain Certified Organic plant derived materials and organic plant-cell vitamins and minerals.

28) What are the benefits of feeding organic dog and cat foods?

You are protecting your beloved pet from chemicals such as preservatives, colorings, flavorings, and humectants that can be toxic and/or allergenic. Remember, one of the tenets of good health is to minimize the toxins in the body that gunk up the tissues, interfering with biochemical processes as well as with intercellular communications, and especially with compromising the body’s immunity.

29) I have read that feeding organic foods is advantageous for the environment. Is that true?

It makes plenty of sense when you think about it. The fewer industrial chemicals we introduce into the environment, the better it is for the soil, plants, and animals.

30) Are any of the ingredients in The Flying Basset Organics pet supplements genetically modified (GMO)?

No, we do not use any GMO ingredients.
